COMMUNION

2nd class received their 1st Holy Communion on Saturday  13th May. Each and every one of them looked absolutely lovely and more imporantly really enjoyed the ceremony. They were all very very happy receiving the host and they were delighted with their certificates.  The children then came to school on Friday 19th May dressed in their outfits and we went to all the classrooms and showed all the classes their beautiful clothes! Well done to all 2nd Class.

SCIENCE

We  had great fun exploring which mixture would clean coppper coins. At our opening  discussion we decided that something  acidic or scratchy  might work best. We chose to use vinegar, ketchup,  a sugar and salt mix and some cola.  Each table had their own  silver foil tray. We mixed a small amount of the item with some some water, we left them for an hour and then cleaned the coins. We came up with with some good conclusions. For example the children deduced that the vingar cleaned the most coins but thre ketchup made them the shiniest. The cola worked well but next time we would not dilute it.

Maths

We have also been learning about capacity, we were busy estimating and measuring how much water it would take to fill certain objects, It was a bit wet but it was really good fun and so interesting!

 Book Week 2017

We had such fun dressing up for Book Week.  There  were so many characters. We were reading the BFG by Roald Dahl at the time and we were learning about what kind of a person the main character Sophie was in the story, so it was nice to connect our learning with the book day celebrations.

2nd Class have been very busy in Maths. We learned all about 3D shapes, we started by guessing which shapes were in the bag by describing how they felt, then we explored the classroom for some 3D shapes, we went on a shape hunt around the school grounds and found lots of 3D shapes. Finally we build our own 3D shapes using dry spaghetti and marshmallows!!!

Our next topic was time, each group made a large clock using a hula hoop and rulers for the clock and rulers for the hands. Then we made our own individual clocks which we used to solve some time problems.   We finished off the topic by playing a board game where you had to identify the time of each space you landed on.

Geography

We were working as geologists to find different textures in the garden, including soft, hard, bumpy, smooth and rough. We worked in pairs to find the samples, and collect them in a plastic bag, and categorised them when we got back to the classroom. It was great fun.
